It’s back! Yes that’s right my lovelies, I’m here today to introduce you to the sassy queen that is Amy Ashmore! She blogs over at idontownanythingdesigner and has been since May last year. You may remember me mentioning her from the #SockStyle day we did back in May? If you’re all ready, let’s get to know Amy!
*Amy’s answers are in bold italics*
Hello Amy! First and foremost I would like to thank you for taking part in the Oh So Jack ‘Meet The Blogger’ feature!
If you’re ready, let’s begin!
What inspired you to create idontownanythingdesigner?
I had been using tumblr and Instagram for a while and followed a lot of super sassy bloggers, I thought to myself “why can’t I do this?” So I created an account on blogger and away we go!
How did you come up with the name idontownanythingdesigner?
I was actually researching Grimes, who was a huge inspiration at the time because I loved her style, and she said in an interview “I don’t own anything designer” and I thought, neither do I that sounds like a cool name. At first it was my college Tumblr name (still is but now it’s my inspiration Tumblr) and then it became the blog URL.
Since creating your blog, what have you found to be your favourite part of the blogging experience?
Making new friends, I’ve met some beautiful people while blogging, some whom I’m yet to meet in person but talk to online. I think it’s a beautiful community and I’m proud to be a part of it. It’s also given me a lot of opportunities.
What have you found to be your bigger achievement as a blogger?
I think the fact people even appreciate my style and read what I write is a huge achievement! I’ve worked with Motel Rocks on an internship and collaborated with Rokit vintage and that was amazing?
What have you found to be your biggest challenge as a blogger?
Keeping up content, blogging isn’t my job (sadly) and so I’ve been working nights at Sainsbury’s in order to afford to buy clothes to blog. I also don’t live near a lot of my blogging pals so it’s hard to find someone to shoot my blog and meet other bloggers, but I’m hoping that changes when I move to university!
Now, moving onto more about you, what are your interests and hobbies?
Blogging of course, I love going shopping, styling new outfits and making cute little collage books of clothes and inspiration, stalking my favourite bloggers online (no shame) going to events and meeting new people, I really don’t have a set list of hobbies like horse riding and things like that I’d probably say eating is my favourite hobby, I love food.
What are your favourite fashion/lifestyle magazines?
I collect POP and ID because I love the weird editorials and they always have great articles, other than that I like Dazed, Indie, and the Marie Claire and Elle runway magazines they release seasonally. I can’t stand celebrity gossip magazines, I hate popular culture at this day and age so I’d rather stick with the cool creative magazines and not read about how celebrities have gained weight and look gross in their swim suits!
How would you describe your sense of style?
Sassy, weirdo who likes attention. I’ve never dressed like everyone else I was an “emo” kid from the ages of 12-15 and before that I just played dress up, which I still do every day to be honest!
Who inspires you?
My mum, she’s always been so supportive and encourages me to be myself and dress how I want, she’s also very quirky she’s amazing. I also love bloggers like Charlotte from Crave Green Velvet, The Confetti Crowd and Kayla Hadlington.
What is your dream job?
To work in fashion media and promotion/full time blogger. I’ve always loved the fashion market and I’m studying media and promotion at university. I hope I’ll either work for one of the magazines I mentioned, a shop I love or be self employed. As long as it’s a job I love and have passion for that earns enough money for food and clothes I’m happy!
If you were given the chance, where in the world would you go?
Japan! I’ve always been obsessed with the culture it’s such a strange and beautiful place. I’d love to visit Australia too, and meet some of the amazing bloggers I follow who live their, just scared of the spiders!
I’d also love to go back to Berlin, Berlin is amazing.
Out of the items you own, What is your favourite:
Piece of clothing ?
Oh that’s such a hard choice!? I’d say most of my vintage clothing because it’s all so strange. My mint green 1960s coat has to be at the top of the list!
Pair of shoes?
My yellow Dr Marten 1860 boots, they were my first pair of strange shoes and they are so important to me, they’re very bright.
I love sunglasses, but I’ve gotta say my black floppy hat, it’s in like 80% of my outfit posts!
And finally, what advice would you give to those who would like to start their own blog?
Do it but don’t be cliche, don’t copy other people or blog the same things every other blogger does. I don’t care about what’s on trend and how you style Joni jeans, show me your weirdest outfits and write about sex. Their aren’t enough quirky bloggers out there!
I’d like to say a massive thank you once again to Amy for taking part and to all of you reading this, make sure you check out Amy’s Instagram to check out her new clothing line and all things Amy!
