Pinch, punch first of the month! Can you believe that it is only twenty four days ’till Christmas (well, twenty three days & three hours) if you want to be really precise!
Ok, so I wanted to introduce a new occasional feature to Just Having A Giraffe! It will be called “Meet the Blogger” & as the title suggests you will get to meet other fashion bloggers that are out there in the blogosphere! Exciting right?! Well, like I said it will be an occasional feature that will pop up every now & again, but nevertheless I’m so happy to be writing my first “Meet the Blogger”! So without further ado, let’s meet our first blogger!
I’d like to introduce you to nineteen year old Alex! She runs the fashion blog ‘Allurescent‘.
I contacted Alex back in October if she would be interested in taking part in the feature & I was over the moon when she replied saying that she would love to participate! Below you can find the interview, I hope you enjoy it & I’ll catch you later!
*THE BOLD ITALIC WRITING REPRESENTS ALEX’S ANSWERS*
Hello Alex! First & foremost I would like to thank you for taking part in the ‘Just Having A Giraffe:
Meet The Blogger’!
So without further ado, let’s begin!
1. Starting with blogging, what inspired you to create ‘Allurescent’?
With a general love for fashion like most people and by studying fashion and textiles at uni; I
needed to add another string to my bow for the future career-wise. Blogging definitely fulfils this;
spending free time to extend your interests is a great way to involve yourself in what you love
and wish to pursue a career in.
2. Since creating ‘Allurescent’ what have you found to be your favourite part of the blogging
Finding and chatting to like-minded bloggers like yourself I find really inspirational! Being able to
read and engage with other blogs really gives you a range of perspectives, ideas and opinions
that you don’t necessarily get from magazines and social networking sites. I’m also quite bad at
keeping up to date with fashion news in terms of magazines, websites etc so reading blogs is
like my collective news report!
3. What have you found to be your biggest achievement as a blogger?
Probably being selected as a competition winner on Next’s blogger network, I never expected to
win it but it’s definitely given me confidence in my content despite being a small competition but
it’s reassured me my blog is heading in the direction I want it to.
4. Now moving onto more about you, who inspires you?
Mia Moretti, Taylor Momsen and Cara Delevingne are style icons that I like to keep an eye
on but I tend to find designers more inspirational. Valentino, Kenzo and Chanel are among
my favourites especially Valentino’s Paris Fashion Week S/S 14 collection which I’ve been
intending to post about for a while! I am also inspired by collective trends and historical trends or
5. What is your dream job?
I want to go into garment technology in the fashion industry which may sound a bit dull and
boring but I love the elements of garment tech in my course and think it would be an ideal job for
me I just really need to put the graft in to get there! I used to want to go into buying but because
it’s so hard to go into this field and the overly hectic nature of the role made me decide it wasn’t
6. If you were given the chance, where in the world would you like to go?
In the future I would love to travel as much as possible but Hong Kong is right up there; the
hustle and bustle of such a fast-paced city really appeals to me and I’d love to experience such
a different culture although it’s quite daunting how far away from home it is. I am contemplating
studying abroad next year as a sandwich year but I’m undecided!
7. Out of the items you own, what is your favourite:
● Piece of clothing?
Right now my favourite piece of clothing is my Next Biker Jacket with leather panels, I’m itching
for the weather to get colder so I can wear it more often. I can’t get enough of the grunge look
this season and think a great staple coat is essential for AW.
My ASOS Academy Boots are undoubtedly my favourite shoes at the moment, I literally cannot
take them off! I love them so much I went to buy them in green too but they’ve sold out on the
website! You can never go wrong with investing in a good sturdy chunky winter boot.
I’m not one to accessorize much but I constantly pinch anything my Mum or Nan is throwing out
and have a pair of earrings I never take off which are gorgeous floral studs that my Nan had
8. Finally, what advice would you give to those who would like to start their own blog?
If anything I would say make sure you write for yourself and what you enjoy. There is nothing
worse than looking back and being dissatisfied with what you published, I think you need to
write about what you’re passionate about and not what you think other people would like to
Once again Alex, thank you so much for giving your time to complete this interview! It has been
great for both myself & readers to get to know you! 🙂
No problem love, pleasure! Thank you for interviewing me!:)x
