Peels. Bananas have them. Satsumas have them. Oh, and humans have them. Not necessarily in an identical fashion, but mankind does use peels as a way to achieve better looking skin. The types of peels in question are of the chemical variety.
Today, we’ll be looking at The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution and I’ll be sharing my thoughts with you guys. I finally managed to get my hands on a bottle of this product last year and have been waiting to share what I thought of it with you all.
The solution was formulated with 30% Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic, Tartaric and Citric) and 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid (Salicylic Acid), Hyaluronic Acid Crosspolymer, Vitamin B5, Black Carrot and Tasmanian Pepperberry. These are ingredients that may seem daunting with the scientific names, but don’t be scared off as they are there for positive reasons.
The AHA exfoliate the skin’s surface layer, resulting in a brighter, more even appearance. The BHA do the same but with the ability to help with pore congestion. The two of them together combat visible blemishes and create a more radiant look. The combined acids work together, over a period of use, to also reduce the appearance of fine lines. The hyaluronic acid provides comfort, while the Vitamin B5 encourages the healing process of the skin. The less science-y ingredients are not to be overlooked as the Tasmanian Pepperberry helps reduce the irritation that would occur from using acidic products, whilst the black carrot works as an antioxidant.
I have combination skin which I personally find to be a blessing and a curse. One minute I have an oily sheen that could cook food and the next I look like I’ve been starved of oxygen… It’s a look… I am, however, quite lucky in that despite my skin can be sensitive, I am often able to introduce new products or try different things with minimal fuss. Upon the initial use, I must admit that I did experience a stinging sensation, but there again this is an acidic solution being applied to the face… In total honesty, there are still days in which the product stings, but this is generally when there has been disruption to my skincare routine.
In the time I have been using the peeling solution, I have found it to be an incredible product! Part of being on the course I study means that my friends and I play the role of model for each other, which requires layering on a lot of makeup, which in turn clogs the pores. The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution has fast become a staple in my skincare, thanks to the results that the product has left me with. Beforehand, my skin can sometimes appear dull, tired and uneven, however since using the solution, my skin looks more even in tone, radiant and healthier. To top all of this off, the product costs £6.30!
