So this is it. The third decade I’ve seen is now about to end. I remember it being a big deal when we went from 2009 to 2010 and the fact it was a new decade was exciting for everyone. That said, I was still at school so things didn’t feel so different. As we go from 2019 to 2020 however, I get this excitement at the new decade, and I’d be lying if I said I’m not the slightest bit apprehensive.
In this decade I will no longer be in education, leave my twenties and (hopefully) have my shit together. Watch this space on that last part… The 2010’s have been a really great decade – in my personal opinion. There have, of course, been lows that include the passing of many great talents, potential passings of those close to you, Trump getting into office and the horrific natural disasters and terrorist attacks, but with these lows we must count all the blessings and highs of this decade that have come into our lives.
For me, the 2010’s was a period in which I grew in confidence, came out to those around me, finished school, made it into university, made it out of university and begin a career that continually excites me. These are all things that I couldn’t be more grateful for.
To anyone reading, I wish you a Happy New Year full of joy and prosperity, and as I draw this post to a close, I’ll leave you with this question. What are you grateful to the 2010’s for and what have you learnt in this time?
